Casio seems to be gradually bringing the G-Shock and Pathfinder lines closer together. The first Casio Riseman was introduced back in 1997, but has been discontinued for some time. About three years ago, Casio introduced the G-Shock GW-400J which borrows from the Pathfinder line by integrating a thermometer. More recently, Casio announced the Ultimate Pathfinder (PAW1500) which, like the G-Shock line, is now water resistant to 200 meters (650 feet) rather than the previous 100 meters. And now Casio is reviving the Riseman line with the very strong Casio Riseman GW-9200.

Features include:

• New multi-band atomic timekeeping. Most of Casio’s atomic watches are multi-band now, meaning they calibrate with atomic clocks in Mainflingen (Germany), Rugby (England), Fort Collins (Colorado), Fukushima (Japan), and Fukuoka (also Japan). But the Riseman GW-9200 goes a step further by also calibrating with the 77.5 kHz atomic signal in China, making it the first 6-band atomic watch I’ve ever seen.
• Solar powered.
• Water-resistant to 200 meters, or about 650 feet.
• Barometer pressure indicator and differential pointer (graph) with a range of 260 to 1,100 hectoPascals (millibars).
• Altimeter with a range of -700 to 10,000 meters, altitude data storage, and altitude differential pointer (ascent/descent graph).
• Thermometer with a range of -10°C to 60°C.
• Stopwatch with a resolution of 1/100th of a second, and a maximum capacity of 24 hours.
• World time with support for 33 cities.
• Countdown timer with a maximum of 24 hours (a nice improvement over the Pathfinders).
• 5 daily alarms and one snooze alarm.
• Time transfer function which allows you to swap the primary time zone with a secondary time zone (simplifying frequent travel between two zones).
• Electroluminescent backlight with automatic illumination feature (the ability to automatically illuminate the LCD by tilting the watch toward you).
• Dimensions: 51mm x 48.8mm x 15.9mm, and 60.9g.

All that is keeping the new Riseman from being a true triple sensor Pathfinder is the digital compass which, unfortunately, is one of my favorite features of the Pathfinder line. However, the GW-9200 is clearly one of the most sophisticated digital watches on the planet. It looks fantastic, and has some additional small improvements like the ability to view the date and day of week simultaneously. I just hope that, unlike the GW-400J, we will be able to toggle between metric and imperial units for things like temperature and barometric pressure, however I’m guessing not, and I’m guessing it will not be released in the US (though I will be very happy to be proven wrong).

The Casio G-Shock Riseman GW-9200 will be available on June 28th, 2008 and will retail for ¥27,000 which, as of today, is about $260.

My regular readers know that I love four features in watches: solar, atomic, countdown timers, and vibrating alarms. Apparently, it is a touchy subject. After all, Rockett is a talented individual with real skills. A well-known vegan and animal rights activist with a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Renato Magno, Rockett was arguably the heart and soul of Poison. Additionly, in October 2008, Rockett married long time girlfriend Melanie Martel. Clearly, he does not want his wife to think that they are now in financial trouble. After all, Rockett was falsely accused of a crime last year. The press quickly crucified him, but failed to exonerate him with as much passion when it was discovered to be a false charge. Websites ran many headlines about his initial arrest, but few ran follow-up stories when the real perpetrator turned out to be a Rikki Rockett impersonator. No wonder Rikki Rockett is so angry with the press!

So what kind of Rolex watch did Rikki Rockett sell on eBay? He sold a 2T Datejust Turn-O-Graph with a champagne dial in 18k gold. The Datejust Turn-O-Graph is a member of Rolex’s Oyster Perpetual line. It is a Datejust watch, which is steeped in Rolex history, as Rolex introduced the first wristwatch to feature a date display on the dial of the watchin 1945. The date is displayed under a magnifying Cyclops lens and the Datejust Turn-O-Graph introduces a rotating bezel with sixty-minute markers. Other than the bezel, the Datejust Turn-O-Graph is distinguished from the other Datejust watches because of the red seconds hand marker and red date display. Unfortunately, the price that Rikki Rockett received for his Rolex Turn-O-Graph remains confidential.

Seen pictured Rikki Rockett is wearing a 2T Datejust with a black dial and a smooth bezel. At least, it appears to be a smooth bezel given the quality of the photo. Is this the new Rolex watch Rikki Rockett bought to replace the Turn-O-Graph or does he have a more extensive collection? If you you’d like to own something akin to the watch that Rockett didn’t sell, Melrose Jewelers has an excellent 2T Datejust with a black dial for a very affordable price. The Men’s 2T Rolex Datejust with Jubilee 18k/SS band is a dressier version of the Datejust, which allows for more versatility and a classic look. Most likely, Rikki Rockett liked the 2T Rolex Datejust so much that he no longer wore his Rolex Turn-O-Graph. As a result, he sold the watch on eBay, not because the hard rocker is broke, but because he had moved on to a different Rolex design.

Today is the start of the week long SIHH 2010 watch show in Geneva, Switzerland. At the show are many of the top-tier brands in the world of watchmaking. Including one of my favorites, German watchmaker A. Lange & Sohne. They have released a number of new novelties, which I will publish today and throughout the week. But for starters, the watch that caught my eye first, is the new 1815 Chronograph. Based on the popular Datograph and its L951.5 movement, the new 1815 adds a 60-hour power reserve and a proprietary balance spring. It is a flyback chronograph, like the Datograph, for which it is based on, but it does not include the oversize date window at 12 o’clock or the patented one push date corrector at 10 o’clock. It does, however, have blued hands for hours, minutes, seconds, chrono seconds and chrono minutes. It also utilizes number markers instead of Roman numerals. Even with these changes, it still exhibits the good looks and heritage of the Datograph, but with a style all its own.

The 2009 Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship was expected to be a memorable one in the history of sailing and it did turn out to be exactly that though the reasons for that have been very far and varied. One of the pre-championship stars and the eventual winner was Anna Tunnicliffe who not only defeated the fellow sailors but made the weather look like the real looser to win quite comfortably and through her win reiterated the philosophy of Rolex which focuses on promoting brilliance and unwavering human endurance.

There are two major motives behind the efforts the sailors are more than happy to put in with the Bengt Julin Trophy being one and the beautifully crafted and hugely popular Rolex Oyster Perpetual Stainless Steel and Gold Datejust being the other. The event was held at the Rochester Yacht Club from the 7^th of October to 10^th though due to the weather the actual and effective regatta was cut short to lesser duration. Organized by US Sailing and Rochester Yacht Club, the Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship boasts of having Rolex Watch USA, the legendary maker of the best in the world luxurious watches, as its title as well as main sponsor. The involvement of Rolex is further stressed and made more involved through the coveted Rolex watch the winner gets to flaunt on her wrist. The honors at 2009 Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship went to the Plantation, Florida based Anna Tunnicliffe who along with her crew out raced others and managed to live up to the expectations of everyone.

Anna Tunnicliffe was helped in her endeavor by her crew in winning the coveted 2009 Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship, which is won in a style. Her team consisted of Molly O’Bryan Vandemoer who belongs to California and two New Yorkers in Liz Bower and Debbie Capozzi to make a very formidable team. Her potential, ability and performance can be gauged from the fact that when she finished her penultimate race at the 2009 Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship she had accumulated enough points to win the Bengt Julin Trophy with one race still left to be held. Her determination to not allow herself to be bogged down by the weather and her ability to turn the tables on weather through her audacity and dedication are the very virtues that Rolex tries to promote by associating itself with the 2009 Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship.
